I am planning a trip to your mine. I intend to stay at the State Park nearby. I would appreciate any advice on the weather. You said that the mine is open May thru October, I believe. I recall that you said the opal is in moist clay. Beyond the usual digging tools, should I bring several wash tubs and grading screens to find the opals ? My RV carries 185 gallons of fresh water, but I assume that you have water and a rock shop on the property ? I too am interested in the odds, but being a rockhound I know that the rockhound who moves the most dirt usually gets better results. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I am wondering what the odds are in finding an opal? how many tons of rock and dirt you will have to move to find one opal????? or is it hype.................

Hope to take a vacation this year or next year and come out to dig for opals. I hope to find a black opal - the ones that were shown on the tv program were absolutely beautiful! You have a nice and informative website.
