I have been an amateur gold panner many years. Have read about opal mining numerous times. I finally decided it would be a nice vacation trip. Hope to visit your mining camp this summer. I am curious about the crazing and degeneration of the stones due to moisture loss. Not a lot of info available about stabilizing. I was just curious to find out if anyone had thought about trying to use True-oil. It is a gunstock refinishing oil that when rubbed on by the fingertip in a micro small amount it will harden to an almost iron like coating. Absolutely clear and seals completely any open pores. Just an idea maybe worth trying.

I saw on tv that people have found some valuable opals here. Before I travel there, I would like to know if these were rare instances or if it is common to make back the $90 a day digging fee?

I am a very amateur rock hound, having been collecting rocks and minerals since a very young age. Did not realize there was a black opal and especially here in the states. Hope to be able to go to the Royal Peacock mine someday and bring one home for other Nebraskans to see.

When My step son told us about you and your operation, we brought up the website and were sold. We are in the process of getting reservation in the campground for this spring, shortly after you open for the season.Looking forward to trying our luck and meeting your staff.
